HOUSTON, OCTOBER 12, 2004 -- Air Routing International (booth No. 8800), a worldwide leader in corporate flight handling to the business aviation industry, along with the NBAA General Aviation Desk and the Teterboro Airport User’s Group has developed implementation of a flight planning process which will enhance customers knowledge and use of the Coded Departure Route (CDR) program.
Coded Departure Routes (CDR) are abbreviated clearances for certain pre-established routes between high city pairs, whose purpose is to minimize traffic loads for air traffic controllers on routes caused by either convective weather or congesting.
According to Lisa Sasse, Air Routing’s national account executive for east coast sales, the program is currently under consideration by the NBAA’s General Aviation Desk and operators at Teterboro (TEB), Morristown (MMU) and White Plains (HPN) airports. Sasse was instrumental in the development of the process and said that Air Routing was the first handling company to aggressively go forward in implementing the process.
“While the program is currently being considered, actual results are yet to be realized until tested under the combination of inclement winter weather and southern high volume traffic flows,” she said. “If the test is successful, there is a good chance this procedure will be expanded to airports nationally.”
Abbreviated Clearances are issued using 8 character CDR when a reroute is needed due to weather or other system constraints. The Abbreviated Clearance process has proven effective in reducing delays at the major New York area airports and in Philadelphia by reducing the time required to read and acknowledge revised clearances, as well as reduce the time required for flight crews to load the new route into the flight manager system. The process has been used by major airlines in the New York area for more than four years.
